We selected RTN1 as a priority gene for our study for following reasons: (1) by searching the publically available data sets from Nephromine.org, we found that RTN1 was highly expressed in human diabetic kidney and correlated with the progression of human DN; (2) previous studies in the neurons suggested that RTN1 might be involved in ER stress and apoptosis, which are key pathologic processes leading to the progression of DN; and (3) RTN1 has never been studied in the context of kidney disease. The gene discussed is RTN1; the disease is kidney disorder.
