A general view of the results in Table 3 shows that IL-2R, IL-18, Leptin, sIL-6Ra, sVEGFR-1 and sVEGFR-2 are up-expressed in all the patient groups, suggesting that these proteins are involved in those chronic inflammation processes leading to T2D through the metabolic syndrome and, often concomitantly, to cancer, and in particular, IL-18 has shown a significant correlation with AFP and glycemic levels. The gene discussed is IL18; the disease is metabolic syndrome.
