Especially saturated fatty acids and trans-fatty acids are supposed to increase the risk of AD (Hooijmans et al., 2007; Studzinski et al., 2009; Ramassamy and Belkacémi, 2011) and affect cognition (Greenwood and Winocur, 2005), which could be due to decreased Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) related synaptic plasticity (Molteni et al., 2002). This evidence concerns the gene BDNF and Alzheimer disease.
