In a rat spinal cord ischemia model, Saito and colleagues [57] reported that the percent staining area positive for glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) was decreased in both gray and white matter after mild hypothermia (1 °C decrease in body temperature to 36.3 °C, initiated 15 min prior to ischemia and maintained during ischemia). Here, GFAP is linked to ischemia.
