Ibrahim et al. [29] found that DNA methylation changes take place sequentially at specific transition points involving RUNX3 in normal colonic mucosa, NEUROG1 and CACNA1G in hyperplastic polyps, SFRP2 and IGF2-DMR0 in adenomatous polyps, and CDKN2A and MLH1 in the adenocarcinoma stage. The gene discussed is CACNA1G; the disease is adenocarcinoma.
