The association observed between glucose levels and suicidal behaviour may be related to the cytokine-mediated inflammatory process that results in the activation of indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase, the depletion of tryptophan and suicidal behaviour related to emerging serotonergic hypofunction, depression and impulsivity [13, 17, 29, 30]. This evidence concerns the gene IDO2 and depressive symptom measurement.
