To highlight the importance of PPP in NET formation, we demonstrate that G6PD activity increases after PMA or AF stimulation and when G6PD activity is blocked by the NADPH competitive inhibitor 6-aminonicotinamide (6-AN), NET formation is abrogated, reinforcing the role of PPP and glucose to neutrophil function in innate response. Here, G6PD is linked to atrial fibrillation.
