Much of the work to understand ethnic differences in susceptibility to T2DM has focused on insulin resistance.3, 4, 5 Recently, we showed that degree of insulin sensitivity differs between Asian ethnic groups and this ethnic difference is more prominent amongst lean individuals.6 Among lean and young Singaporean males, Chinese and Malays are more insulin sensitive compared with Asian Indians.6, 7. This evidence concerns the gene INS and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
