An earlier study reported that among Japanese American men who developed T2DM, insulin insensitivity, increased insulin secretion and increased intra-abdominal fat were already present before the onset of glucose intolerance.25 This may help to explain why Asian Indians are more prone to developing T2DM and other cardio-metabolic diseases at a lower BMI and at younger age.26 This evidence concerns the gene INS and Glucose intolerance.
