It is expected that DPP-4 inhibitors and GLP-1 receptor agonists will be especially effective in treating T2DM patients with NAFLD, because several studies have shown that the serum concentration of DPP-4 is high in NAFLD patients where it is related to insulin resistance (Firneisz et al. 2010), and that the expression of GLP-1 receptor is reduced in NASH patients (Ding et al. 2006). Here, DPP4 is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
