Also, our results demonstrated that the NSE levels of CHD patients in the on-pump group were significantly higher than those of patients in the off-pump group (SMD = 1.19, 95 % CI = 0.66 ~ 1.73, P < 0.001), especially within 24 h after surgery (0 h: SMD = 1.56, 95 % CI = 0.72 ~ 2.40, P < 0.001; 6 h: SMD = 1.20, 95 % CI = 0.31 ~ 2.09, P = 0.008; 24 h: SMD = 1.24, 95 % CI = 0.01 ~ 2.48, P = 0.048), but no such difference was found after 24 h (48 h: SMD = 1.48, 95 % CI = −1.61 ~ 4.58, P = 0.348; 72 h: SMD = 0.24, 95 % CI = −1.41 ~ 1.89, P = 0.777) (Fig. 4b).
