In addition to their usefulness in treating diabetes and obesity[6], the presence of GLP-1 receptors in various tissues other than pancreatic β -cells and α -cells (i.e., brain and heart) has aroused a great deal of interest in exploring the cardiovascular, neuroprotective, renal protective and other extra-pancreatic benefits of GLP-1RAs [7–10].
