We reviewed some new and important urinary biomarkers, such as: Neutrophil gelatinase associated lipocalin (NGAL), N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase (NAG), Cystatin C, alpha 1-microglobulin, immunoglobulin G or M, type IV collagen, nephrin, angiotensinogen and liver-type fatty acid–binding protein (L-FABP) associated with early DN in type 2 diabetic patients. The gene discussed is FABP1; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
