In the same context, Rolhion and collaborators found a significantly increased expression of IL-6 among 43 GBM compared to 16 non GBM brain tumors (astrocytomas, pilocytic astrocytomas, oligodendrogliomas and oligoastrocytomas) (p < 0.001), and suggest that IL-6 may play a central role in GBM behavior, which may serve as a suitable new potential target in the treatment of glioblastomas as well as a marker in glioma classification [43]. This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and central nervous system cancer.
