Although postmortem and human imaging studies have hitherto been unable to find a significant alteration of D2 receptor expression in the striatum of schizophrenic brains compared to that of normal subjects (Howes and Kapur, 2009), a recent genome wide association study has identified more than 100 genetic variants associated with schizophrenia, which includes one on the DA D2 receptor gene (DRD2) (Schizophrenia Working Group of the Psychiatric Genomics, 2014). The gene discussed is DRD2; the disease is schizophrenia.
