It is noteworthy that female sex, aging, hypertension, and obesity—all key risk factors of carotid arterial remodeling in our current study—are also the known main risk factors for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, which was further supported by the consistent linear relationship between larger CCAD and serum Nt-ProBNP level in our current work [26–32]. The gene discussed is NPPB; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
