RETN and Insulin resistance: In this present study, we have shown altered expression of several genes related to insulin resistance in the hearts of diabetic rats (e.g. up-regulation of resistin (Retn) responsible for induction of cardiac insulin resistance in rodents and chronic inflammation in humans [67] and FK506 binding protein 5 (Fkbp5) associated with decreased ligand sensitivity of the glucocorticoid receptor [68].
