Exceptions (where the percentage of individuals with Type 1 diabetes reporting difficulty with a topic was at least 5% higher than that of individuals with Type 2 diabetes) included some topics in the Getting Diabetes Care and Communication domains, as well as “managing side effects of interactions between my medications,” and “trying not to be a burden to others.” Individuals with Type 2 diabetes who were taking insulin nearly uniformly reported higher levels of difficulty for all domains than those with Type 2 diabetes who were treated only with oral agents or lifestyle modification.
