EGR1 and Parkinson disease: Seong et al. (2014) further confirmed the role of Egr1 in mediating the pro-neurogenic effect of ELFEFs on MSCs showing that: (i) knockdown of Egr1 in the hBM–MSCs significantly inhibited ELFEF induced neuronal differentiation; (ii) the overexpression of Egr1 combined with ELFEF exposure increased the efficiency of cell-replacement therapy thus alleviating neurological symptoms in a Parkinson’s disease mouse model.
