Multiple regression analysis revealed that serum betatrophin concentration during pregnancy was independently predicted by fasting glucose (β = -0.251, p = 0.02) and the diagnosis of GDM (β = 0.194, p = 0.04, R2 = 0.08), whereas none of the variables studied (the patient’s age, gestational age, diagnosis of GDM, BMI, glucose, insulin, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations) predicted betatrophin concentration 3 months postpartum. This evidence concerns the gene ANGPTL8 and gestational diabetes.
