Similar to the HIV/SIV context, BLyS/BAFF is increased in several autoimmune disorders [7,39,40], and recent therapeutic trials using anti-BLyS/BAFF (Benlysta/Belimumab) in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) have been successful in inducing remission [41]. This evidence concerns the gene TNFSF13B and systemic lupus erythematosus.
