Kandaswamy et al. recently determined that SLC6A14 is upregulated severalfold in cultured pancreatic cancer cell lines (compared with the normal ductal cell line) and that blockade of the transporter with α-methyltryptophan led to decreased proliferation of PDAC cells in vitro and in a mouse xenograft model [23]. This evidence concerns the gene SLC6A14 and familial pancreatic carcinoma.
