While both total GM3 and GM3(d18:1-h24:1) are correlated with total cholesterol, LDL-c and fasting blood glucose (Figs 4E, 3E, 4F, 3F, 4A and 3A, respectively), only GM3(d18:1-h24:1) is significantly correlated with autotaxin (Fig 3G), insulin (Fig 3B) and HOMA-IR (Fig 3C); adipose-derived autotaxin contributes to adipose tissue expansion and insulin resistance in diet-induced obesity [27].
