K. Lalić et al. in their study entitled “Altered Daytime Fluctuation Pattern of Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor 1 in Type 2 Diabetes Patients with Coronary Artery Disease: A Strong Association with Persistently Elevated Plasma Insulin, Increased Insulin Resistance, and Abdominal Obesity” reported reduced diurnal fluctuation of plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 in patients with T2DM and CAD, along with increased insulin resistance, suggesting that these perturbations may be of relevance for the accelerated atherosclerosis in such patients. This evidence concerns the gene SERPINE1 and atherosclerosis.
