In mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs) and human cervical cancer HeLa cells, PHB1 and PHB2 are mainly localized in the mitochondria, and complete silencing of PHB1 or PHB2 causes mitochondrial network fragmentation followed by increased mitochondria-mediated cell apoptosis under intrinsic and extrinsic apoptotic stimuli [1, 2, 21]. This evidence concerns the gene PHB1 and cervical carcinoma.
