CD4 and cancer: Several studies have reported a strong association of immunosuppression even moderate (CD4 cell count <350 cells/mm3 [34] and even <500 cells/mm3) [9,35] with higher risk of non-AIDS-related cancers [31,36], supporting arguments for earlier initiation of cART in order to reach CD4 lymphocytes levels as high as possible to reduce the risk of cancer-related death.
