GLP1R and alcohol abuse: The GLP-1R agonist, exendin-4, was recently shown to attenuate the reinforcing properties of alcohol in rodents,6, 7 by preventing alcohol-induced accumbal dopamine release.6 Conversely, the GLP-1R antagonist, exendin-9-39, increased alcohol intake in rats.7 These studies suggest a role of GLP-1R in alcohol use disorder (AUD), which represents the main hypothesis underlying this study.
