Although we have recently provided some evidence to demonstrate that cytoplasmic AFP regulates the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/AKT pathway in human hepatocellular carcinoma cells through binding to the PTEN protein, but the reason its function is different to HSA is unknown, and how AFP make its contact to PTEN is also unclear [14]. This evidence concerns the gene PTEN and hepatocellular carcinoma.
