The vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) pathway promotes angiogenesis [5–8], and VEGF antibody and VEGF receptor (VEGFR) kinase inhibitors such as pegaptanib sodium, ranibizumab and bevacizumab have been approved for clinical use to treat cancer, AMD and DR [7, 9, 10]. This evidence concerns the gene VEGFA and age-related macular degeneration.
