VEGFA and diabetic maculopathy: For example, the recent introduction of intravitreal anti-VEGF therapy has improved the chances of preserving residual vision in patients with certain forms of diabetic maculopathy [27,28], and a recently-approved intravitreally-administered cortisone compound (fluocinolone acetonide) has delivered promising results even in patients with therapy-resistant diabetic macular oedema [29,30].
