BRAF and melanoma: Genetic analysis of V600E bRAF expression in patients with UM has uncovered a relationship between the frequency of this mutation and the ocular location of the melanoma. V600E mutations have been detected in patients with anterior UM, such as those of the iris [31], consistent with ultraviolet exposure; however, most UM cases arise in the posterior uveal tract and V600E mutation rates here are negligible [19, 32].
