Posteriorly, CD169+ macrophages were found in glomerulonephritis and there was a correlation with proteinuria and histologic damage, however, as CD169 marker is absent from blood monocytes, this work did not identify if a specific factor, within the glomerular microenvironment, induced the expression of CD169 on macrophages or if CD169+ macrophages were recruited (155). The gene discussed is SIGLEC1; the disease is glomerulonephritis.
