To specify whether CD8 and CD4 T cells are equally important for acute anemia induction, anti-CD8-treated mice, CD8-/- mice and CD4-/- mice were infected with T. b. brucei. Both CD8-/- mice and anti-CD8 treated mice showed reduced anemia compared to wild type C57BL/6 mice (Fig 6C and 6D), coinciding with reduced levels of IFNγ in serum and spleen (Fig 6F and 6G). Here, CD8A is linked to anemia.
