SLC1A2 and schizophrenia: Overall, our results suggest that ACC pyramidal neurons express alternate isoforms of EAAT2, likely in response to the abnormalities in glial glutamate transporters associated with schizophrenia.9, 45, 46 Increases in EAAT2b expression, homomultimers of which form the only functional splice variant transporter,17 suggest that neuronal expression of this isoform may be both compensatory and protective in nature.
