CLDN1 and colorectal cancer: The (patho)physiological relevance of the EpC-cld7 complex was demonstrated repeatedly, most convincing by the death of EpCko mice [41,42], by the shift of cld1 and cld7 towards TJ in EpCkd cells [60], by the pronounced recovery of GEM-located cld7-EpC-CD44v6-Tspan8 complexes in colorectal cancer [36,52] and by the metastasis-supporting activity of the EpC-cld7 complex in pancreatic and colorectal cancer [35,36,38,52,61].
