We previously reported that collagen induces the activation of p38 MAP kinase and p44/p42 MAP kinase in the platelets derived from type 2 DM patients [9], and that collagen-induced activation of p44/p42 MAP kinase results in the phosphorylation of HSP27 in human platelets, resulting in the secretion of PDGF-AB [19], known as a mitogenic mediator promoting atherosclerosis [1]. The gene discussed is HSPB1; the disease is atherosclerosis.
