Particularly high levels of saturated fatty acids (SFA) may increase the risk of dementia and even AD later in life (Kalmijn et al., 1997; Morris et al., 2004; Eskelinen et al., 2008), suggestively via mechanisms involving ApoE-e4 (Laitinen et al., 2006) and may also be conveyed by inflammatory mechanisms (James et al., 2000).
