Pathway enrichment analysis revealed that the most downregulated miRNAs (miR-1, miR-133, miR-143 and miR-145) collectively targeted a number of genes belonging to signaling pathways involved in tumor pathogenesis, such as transforming growth factor (TGF)-β, ErbB3, WNT, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and those regulating cell motility or adhesion. This evidence concerns the gene VEGFA and neoplasm.
