SERPINA1 and Blast Count: All of these results indicate that the alleles of the Piz locus play a key role in conferring resistance to M. oryzae. Therefore, it may be an effective strategy to use different alleles of Piz locus as the backbone for pyramiding with other R genes with strong complementary effect and broad-spectrum resistance, such as Pi1, Pi5, Pi33, Pi54 and Pid3, could create new resistant germplasms and further enhance of the level and broad-spectrum of blast resistance in rice.
