The well-characterized p53 protein is similar to VHL in that it is small enough for burial trace analysis (393 amino acids), includes an N-terminal intrinsically disordered region, shows low thermodynamic and kinetic stability, and is characterized by a large number (>1,000) of cancer-related mutations found in humans (Joerger and Fersht, 2007).
