Interestingly, we noted a similar association to HDL-C, which was further validated in the MuTHER cohort, indicating that epigenetic variants of CD36 may be able to serve as a biomarker for cardiovascular disease prediction in obese individuals similar to what has been suggested for circulating plasma CD36 for type 2 diabetes prediction27.
