CYP3A5 is being often quoted to address the evolutionary perspective of hypertension susceptibility, due to the demonstrated role of CYP3A5 enzymes in sodium homeostasis, even though the many studies that analyzed the relationship between CYP3A5 genotypes and blood pressure/hypertension have provided quite inconsistent results (reviewed in Lamba et al. [37]). The gene discussed is CYP3A5; the disease is hypertensive disorder.
