Previously, many candidate genes, including NRG1 (encoding neuregulin 1), AUTS2 (autism susceptibility candidate 2), TSPAN8 (Tetraspanin-8), ZNF804A (zinc-finger protein 804A), among others, have been identified that might confer risk for schizophrenia [6,7,8,9]. The gene discussed is AUTS2; the disease is schizophrenia.
