Key factors explaining premature age-associated non-AIDS-related events in patients receiving HAART are chronic inflammation and immune activation [7, 8]: plasma levels of several inflammatory and coagulopathy biomarkers, such as interleukin-6 (IL-6), highly sensitive C-reactive protein (hsCRP), and D-dimer are higher and correlate with outcome in HIV infection [9, 10]. This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and HIV infectious disease.
