Intriguingly, asphyxiated newborns developing brain injury showed decreased expression of four anti-angiogenic proteins (i.e., Fib-1C, IGF-BP-1, IGF-BP-4, and IGF-BP-6) compared to healthy newborns, while only two of these proteins (i.e., Fib-1C and IGF-BP-6) were down-regulated in asphyxiated newborns not developing brain injury compared to healthy newborns. This evidence concerns the gene IGFBP6 and brain injury.
