The common pathogenic factors underlying the observed association between hyperglycemia and CHD are involved either (i) at the onset of diabetes (promoting B-cell decompensation or altering one or two variable(s) of the hyperbolic product between insulin secretion and insulin sensitivity), and/or (ii) because they embody cardiometabolic comorbidities that increase the macrovascular risk regardless of glucose levels. This evidence concerns the gene INS and coronary artery disorder.
