Myosin was chosen because it is preferentially degraded in cachexia, and as the major contractile protein in skeletal muscle, its loss can depress respiratory function, diminish strength, and increase fatigue (Acharyya et al., 2004; Du et al., 2004; Li et al., 2005; Tisdale, 2005; Zhang et al., 2011; Johns et al., 2013; Chacon-Cabrera et al., 2014).
