Since our study indicated that enoxaparin can inhibit the release of two key pro-inflammatory mediators involved in the pathogenesis of asthma (IL-6 and IL-8), we first identified the IC-derived fraction responsible for the observed inhibitory effect of enoxaparin and then characterised its structure, as well as determined the specific position of sulfate groups required for the inhibition of IL-6 and IL-8 release. This evidence concerns the gene CXCL8 and asthma.
