CD34 and erythroleukemia: Flow cytometric assessment of CD34+ cells is not recommended, as not all blasts express CD34 antigen and flow cytometry analysis can be affected by peripheral blood dilution of the sample.6 Myeloblasts, monoblasts, promonocytes, and megakaryoblasts should be counted as blasts; dysplastic megakaryocytes and proerytrhoblasts must not be counted as blasts except in the rare cases of “pure” acute erythroleukemia.
