When hypertensive patients were divided into well-controlled (systolic blood pressure <140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure <90 mmHg) and not well-controlled (systolic blood pressure ≥140 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mmHg), it was found that individuals who were not well controlled by the therapy- had higher serum levels of VEGF and IL-8 (p = 8x10-3 and p = 7x10-3, respectively), than patients with well-controlled hypertension (Fig 4). The gene discussed is CXCL8; the disease is hypertensive disorder.
