We focused on this molecule because of data indicating that circulating levels of miR-572 are increased in MS patients [21] and because a putative target for miR-572 is the neuronal cell adhesion molecule (NCAM), a protein involved in the maturation of the nervous system [27], and more recently also suggested to play a role in neurodegenerative diseases. The gene discussed is NCAM1; the disease is neurodegenerative disease.
